The Power of Bruce (aka, The Mawn)

Aaron Duran

Okay, so it’s been a few days since I added to my little rant fest here. And, this installment won’t be that impressive, nor will it be about D&D (I know, that makes you sad). Give a Geek a break, been moving all week and I can barely get my hands to move let along create anything worth reading. But, sore muscles aside, I am here to give some wisdom to ALL retailers the world over…

Bruce Campbell in a pop culture God!

Tom Cruise may get the headlines. Brad Pitt may get the girls. But, Bruce Campbell gets the glory! (Although he does get the girls that THIS Geek would rather date)…

In between moving and packing I stopped at various times at my local Fred Meyer to grab some boxes (or easily cooked food). Being the Geek that I am, I simply had to take a pass in the electronics department. I scoured up and down the new release rack looking for what drew me. I KNEW what was being released today. The silent hit of 2003/2004. The Don Coscarelli / Bruce Campbell film: Bubba Ho-tep! I’m not going to go into a synopsis of the film. Those that have seen it (or even heard about it) know that the plot is completely and utterly ridiculous. But, the film is genius, touching, funny, and dramatic. Just trust me on this one.

Anyway, back to Fred Meyer. As I was looking at the racks a kindly employee came to me and asked if “I can help you find something that ISN’T Bubba Ho-tep”? I just smiled and told him nope. I then pointed out that if enough people have asked about the movie then perhaps the buyers for Fred Meyer should perhaps heed the will of the people and never doubt the power of Bruce. He just laughed the laugh of those that serve the public and moved on.

I spoke true though. Never ever doubt the drawing power of Bruce Campbell. Powell’s books did and it cost them 3 hours of overtime and made them stay open 2am so he could sign every book! Bruce is a God among men, and all retailers would do well to remember that!

Hail to the king baby!

Oh yea, Bubba Ho-Twp rocks... I know you were hoping for a deep review. Well, not gonna' get it... Just go buy the damn movie! You'll be a better person for it!
