Holiday Road Tunes Needed...

Aaron Duran

No matter how many times I swear to myself that I will never return to Susanville, I find myself pulled back. Small towns really are more powerful than the Corleone family. As the only thing worse then going back to the town of my youth is the prospect of being stranded once arriving in said town, we will be driving down. Gonna’ need some tunes though, not just any tunes mind you, but some groovy holiday tunes. However, I think I am going to need some help; I have a few picked out. But, there is a definite theme I am striving for:

Here is what I have already and why:

The 12 Days of Christmas by Bob and Doug McKenzie - How can you not include this one? Only Bob and Doug can do a version of this traditional, but wholly annoying Christmas song. Most of the time I just fast-forward to the final lines and be done with it, and I know you do too! Plus, "5 golden tooks" is just too funny to ignore.

Holiday Road by Lindsey Buckingham - Everybody now, sing along with me... It's a long way down the Holiday Road, oooohhhh. What? As if none of you ever found yourself stuck in the middle of a long road trip only to catch yourself singing the hook to the Vacation movie theme, you know you did. Well, I finally broke down and found myself a copy. Although the song was never used in Christmas Vacation (which is a damn shame), it is called Holiday Road and therefore shall be included on the mix CD.

The Christmas Song by The Ravenettes - Bet you thought they would all be wacky or movie themed songs didn’t you. Your friendly neighborhood Geek is deeper then he lets on, though not by much. I am not the biggest fan of the Ravenettes, but there is something about their Christmas song that I just groove on.

Let it Snow by The Rat Pack - Can’t go a holiday without the swanky goodness that it Martin, Sinatra, and Davis. (Yes, I know about Joey and Peter, but they don’t sing on this version). Doesn’t matter what time of day it is, when I hear these dudes start to belt one out I found myself craving a stiff Martini, I’ll do my best to pull over first. The only downer about listening to this song is the reminder that I will never have enough cool in my entire body as Sammy had in his glass eye.

Christmas in Hollis Lyrics by Run DMC - So open your eyes, lend us an ear We want to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Any Geek who doesn’t have this song somewhere in their holiday collection doesn’t really deserve to call themselves a Geek. In fact, you may not be able to call yourself an American. Gold.

There you have it, the tunes I have so far. I know I need more, just not sure what. And so, I call out to you, my fellow Geeks to lend a brother a song as he travels back to Northern California
