Illusionaire Design is proud to announce its first public open studio event! On Thursday, December 6, 2007 from 6pm to 9pm , at the Geek in the City Studios ( 20 NW 5th Ave., Suite 412 ), hand-made items, crafted from long forgotten and discarded material, will be on display.
Jennifer Alvin of Illusionaire Design sees the sparkle of life within material society discards. Taking the quote of "waste not, want not" to heart, she crafts unique items that intrigue the mind. Long forgotten material in junk drawers, hidden in cluttered closets, and locked in musty attics, make a return to glory as the most unique of bags, wallets, and other accessorizing wonders. Her crafts are true one of a kind originals inspired by the works and passion of Jim Henson and other artistic visionaries.
In her own words, Jennifer explains why she constructs these stunning items: Since my day job is in technology, creating things with my hands is a wonderful form of stress relief after pounding away at a keyboard all day. I love the challenge of working with recycled materials. While I think, it is terrific that America is undergoing a craft revolution where knitting, scrapbooking, and other DIY activities are now terribly cool, I believe there should be more to creative endeavors than just following the instructions. Trying to find new uses for recycled items fuels the imagination much more than working with the pre-cut materials out of a box.
With so many people wearing the exact same thing, I like my clothing and accessories to have a bit of fun and uniqueness to them. Many of my pieces were created when I could not find what I wanted in a store.
Come see for yourself what makes Illusionaire Design crafts so wonderful and special at the open studio event on Thursday December 6 from 6 pm to 9 pm . Illusionaire Design is also participating in the sixth Annual SCRAP (School and Community Recycling Action Program) Holiday Bazaar and Bake Sale on December 8, from 11am to 6pm. Highlighting the work of 15 talented local artists, the SCRAP Holiday Bazaar and Bake Sale proves that gold can be spun from old twine.
