GEEK CHECK!!!
More Comic Con Reports! KaraokeFanboy
After two hours of trolling San Diego’s Gaslamp District and Little Italy for a parking spot, I wasn’t sure if the "ha ha ha" in the sky was God’s way of mocking our dedication to comics or DC’s latest grassroots attempt to market next summer’s surefire blockbuster The Dark Knight. Of course, ‘twas the latter, and though I missed Warner Brothers’ pre-panel call for wanna-be Joker minions, a friend of mine reported that the WB had painted dozens of young volunteers’ faces white and ordered them to run around the Con. Ha, ha indeed. (Click on this Link and this Link to see what Joker'ized Con attendees look like - AD)
Also, though I could’ve kicked myself for missing the WB premiere panel for the Get Smart preview alone, I’ve heard that the Rock will appear in the Mel Brooks inspired movie – though not as the robot Larrabee, for which he’d made an excellent casting choice.
Thursday night, I beheld DC's first straight to DVD animated feature based on one of their landmark comic series, Superman: Doomsday. Remaining as spoiler free as possible, Bruce Timm and the Warner Brothers animation department managed to condense literally years worth of multi-title story arcs into a simple, linear hour and a half long film, rife with action and character development. A review is soon to follow, but trust me: this the spirit of the Doomsday saga, and it’s much better that its in print predecessor.
(Again, huge thanks to KaraokeFanboy for his constant updates on all things Comic Con... You think your petty Star Trek Convention is tiring, ain't nothing like the San Diego Comic Con - AD)
