People! Gotta' Tell a Geek the News! Aaron Duran
Okay, so this isn't as bad as not being informed about the super secret Simpsons screening in Portland... But it is damn close...
George R.R. Martin fans need to pay much attention to the myriad of posts hitting in 3...2...1...
First, from the "Dang Aaron, this news is 2 months old department"...
A Song of Fire and Ice is coming to HBO! As reported on Martin's site as well as Variety Online:
The series will begin with the 1996 first book, A Game of Thrones, and the intention is for each novel (they average 1,000 pages each) to fuel a season's worth of episodes. Martin has nearly finished the fifth installment, but won't complete the seven-book cycle until 2011.
Now, anyone wondering just why HBO is putting so much into a "simple fantasy" series doesn't know these books... If HBO sticks to the pages (and I have no doubt they will)... This series will make Deadwood and The Sopranos looks like a daytime soap... Damn, finally got me to buy HBO...
More Martin news... The Hedge Knight sequel will be making its way into a comic book shop near you in late 2007. The six issue miniseries, titled The Sworn Sword, will be published by DBPro and Marvel Comics, and will begin its run later this year. Trade paperback and hardcover collections will follow.
Finally... As if owning an Arwen Sword replica wasn't nerdy enough... You will soon be able to lay your grubby little Geek hands on some Valyrian Steel. Hoping to cover all the "named" blades within the Song of Fire and Ice series, it will debut with Longclaw (blade now wielded by John Snow) in 2008...
The only bad news to come out of all of this? Well, none really... Except that I am going to start saying things like "have words with" and "smallclothes" all over again... and believe that boiled wine will cure all wounds...
