WHAT TO DO IN PORTLAND
Star Wars Coming to Portland Lady Vader
Greetings programs! Allow me to introduce our newest staff writer, the wonderfully Geeky Lady Vader. You’ve seen her defend Han Solo and rant about her various MMORPG characters in the GitC forum… Now you can read her Dark-Side driven wit here… And, true to form, her first article promotes the coming of Star Wars to Portland, OR! - AD
Han Solo: Han Solo. I'm captain of the Millennium Falcon. Chewie here tells me you're lookin' for passage to the Alderaan system.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Yes indeed, if it's a fast ship.
Han Solo: Fast ship? You've never heard of the Millennium Falcon?
Every good Geek and Geekette has heard of the Millennium Falcon and its infamous captain. Along with so many other things from both the classic Star Wars trilogy and prequels, it has become a part of pop culture. Kids clamor for Lightsaber at the toy store (okay, not just kids - I've got the Darth Maul Force FX double-bladed saber), the Imperial March echoes through every Geek’s cell phone, there is a multitude of Star Wars themed video games for every system out there, and the original three movies have seen yet another release to DVD. Wouldn't you love a chance to jump in the co-pilot's seat alongside Han, or cruise the deserts of Tatooine bulls-eyeing Womp Rats with Luke? On the other hand, maybe you want to take a closer look at the fantastical costumes and aliens from throughout the galaxy in order to find a way to perk up your own wardrobe (I wonder if they have the gold bikini).
Well, it's your lucky day...
Starting October 11, the feature exhibit at OMSI will be Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination. The exhibit will feature props and costumes from all six films, a model of the interior of a sand crawler large enough to enter, a virtual ride in a full-sized replica of the Millennium Falcon's cockpit, the chance to build a virtual spaceport, and take a look at some real-world robots and starships in connection with the exhibit's main themes of transportation and robot development. And, rumor has it, if you want to get even more involved, OMSI is still looking for volunteers to help during the exhibit. You can find out more at www.omsi.edu.
