2007 HAUNTS
Walk Among the Dead, Hear Their Tales Aaron Duran
Time to bring some Halloween fun back to Portland, and you can’t get much more hometown than a visit to one of Portland’s oldest cemeteries. I’ve written about the Lone Fir Cemetery in the past (where I erroneously called it Morrison Pioneer Cemetery ). If you haven’t been to this parcel of Portland history, you are truly missing out on an interesting experience. Thankfully, the people at Friends of Lone Fir Cemetery are there to help you glimpse into Portland’s rather colorful past.
Whether you are a skeptic or a believer, you should block out some time on Halloween night and partake in the candlelight tour of Lone Fir Cemetery. Although the Friends of Lone Fir Cemetery provide tours throughout the year, it is their Halloween night tour that really gets the blood flowing. They don’t stoop to cheap thrills or ghostly rumors. As you’ll learn if you take the tour; the real people and events in Portland’s darker past are just as creepy as any ghost tale that goes bump in the night.
The event takes place at Lone Fir Cemetery on October 31. Tours run from 6pm to 9pm. There is no cost, but donations of $5 or $10 are encouraged. Learn more at www.friendsoflonefircemetery.org.
