WHAT TO DO IN PORTLAND
Your Friendly Neighborhood Game Store Aaron Duran
This really isn’t a case of someone ripping off my sweet tagline, as your friendly neighborhood Geek blatantly ripped off Stan Lee for his. Though, as many a person will state, I am not very friendly and so my tag line is a bold faced lie. Not so with Dan and Alicia Brophy, owners of Game Geex in Gresham, who very well may be the nicest game store owners I’ve ever met. See, it is hard enough to own a small business without factoring in fanboys and gamer dorks. While our constant movie quoting may appear charming, trust me when I say, we can be an annoying lot over time.
Good gaming has come to Gresham.
Tucked away in a small store on 1491 SE Hogan Road in Gresham, Game Geex carries a little bit of everything the Gamer Geek needs. Dan and Alicia do a good job of staying on top of the ever changing world of table top role playing games, miniature games, and CCG (that collectable card games to you straights). Game Geex also has a solid collection of board games for you gamers that like a little fun, but don’t really want to pretend like you’re an elf in a far off land! And, like any good Geek store, Game Geex keeps a fresh stock of the primary gamer food groups: Red Vines, Doritos, and caffeine.
Not just a store.
Game Geex is also following a trend that I think will separate the stores that make it from the stores that slowly fade away. Game Geex holds an almost nightly card, miniature, or video game tournament. Game Geex is one of the few sanctioned YuGiOh and MechWarrior tournament stores within the Portland metro area. Check out their website at www.gamegeex.com for a list of dates and times. In addition to their normal game nights, Game Geex will also host your next private party, just drop them a line and set it up.
Finally, all you starving east side Geeks have a place to flop your polyhedral dice…
