THE WICKED MIND OF ILLUSIONAIRE
Decorating for the holidays -- GitC style! Illusionaire

Step aside, Martha and Rachael. Dried apple and cranberry wreaths just don't cut it with this crowd. The Geek Tower needed a gingerbread house to complement our holiday decor, and I decided to give it a bit of a geeky spin.
Special thanks to our friends at Free Geek for the hook up on many of the materials used in the GitC holiday house decoration. They run a non-profit thrift store with sweet recycled computer stuff at super prices! Many bins of things that will make you go, "Oh, I used to have one of those!" although much newer than the 1200 baud modems that make me wax nostalgic for late nights chatting with my friends on the neighborhood BBS. The Palace Flophouse and Grill was run by my friend Eric, who is also the only person I know of who scored perfectly on the SATs and ACTs. He also organized the monthly geek run to Denny's. But I digress.
Suggested materials:
A random assortment of PCI 56k Modem cards, laptop network cards, heat sinks, ribbon cable, cooling fans, USB cables, or any other technology items from around the house that have seen better days.
Tub of frosting
Box of graham crackers
Board or other flat surface to mount your creation on
Decorative writing gel tubes
Plastic boxes to build the house around
Wire to reinforce the construction
Doublesided tape
Let's get building! | 1. Use the doublesided tape to affix the plastic boxes to your mounting board. Use the frosting to prime the boxes for the installations of the internal modem cards as walls. | | 2. Fill in any areas not covered by hardware with graham crackers. | | 3. Install graham crackers with frosting to create the base for the roof. |
 | 4. Cut ribbon cable into pieces to use as roof shingles. | | 5. Use frosting to affix shingles to the roof. | | 6. Use a cooling fan and electrical tape to create a chimmney. Install on roof with frosting. | | 7. Create front wall with graham crackers. | | 8. Place heat sink in front of wall to create front stoop. Attach laptop cards to front wall as window and door. Embellish with writing gel tubes to create window panes and door. |
Tah-dah! Marvelous, isn't it? Stay tuned for future installments of Decorating for the holidays -- GitC style!
